Kazbek North Route Ascent

Mount Kazbek is located on the Russia-Georgia border. On this trek, we'll climb it from the northern side — that is, from the Russian side.

Our route passes through wild, untouched nature, far from civilization — so accommodation throughout the tour is in tents.

Program Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival

This day is optional but highly recommended for your comfort.

We will meet you at the airport, at Mineralnye Vody railway station, or at Pyatigorsk railway station, and transfer you to our office in Pyatigorsk.

In a relaxed setting, we will sign all necessary documents and check your gear and clothing for the ascent. If anything is missing, you can rent it on the spot — we have everything you need.

Pyatigorsk is a resort town. You can stay overnight at any of the many hostels or hotels (prices start from 800 RUB).

Day 1: Transfer to the Genaldon Gorge

If you chose not to arrive earlier, please be at the office between 7:00 and 9:30 AM — before the briefing — to sign documents and check gear.

Briefing at 10:00 AM. Your guide will introduce themselves, give an overview of the tour, explain safety rules and mountain etiquette, and answer any questions.

After that, we depart for the start of the route. On the way, in Vladikavkaz, we pick up the border zone permits.

Day 2: Upper Thermal Springs (2,300 m)

Trek 4–5 hours to the thermal springs.

Overnight on the glacier moraine.

Training sessions: crampon walking technique, ice axe self‑arrest, and fixed‑rope movement.

Day 4: Acclimatization to 3,900 m

Today we head up the north‑west buttress of the OZhD Peak.

We climb to 3,500 m, set up camp, and then go light on an acclimatization ascent to 3,900 m.

Part of the route is on fixed ropes. Overnight at 3,500 m.

Day 5: Assault Camp on the Kazbek Firn Plateau (4,200 m)

Ascent to the assault camp on the Kazbek Firn Plateau (4,200 m). The trek takes about 5 hours.
