Elbrus South Route — 1-Day Ascent with Oxygen

In classic programs, an Elbrus ascent takes 6–10 days — necessary for your body to gradually acclimatize to the reduced oxygen levels at altitude. Using supplemental oxygen solves this problem. At every stage of the ascent, you breathe an air mixture with oxygen content equivalent to sea level — or even slightly higher if needed.

This means you'll move easier and faster than many climbers who go with acclimatization but without oxygen. This is achieved by adjusting the oxygen flow rate into the mask, where it mixes with ambient air.

Using oxygen eliminates hypoxia — and therefore altitude sickness, the main cause of most issues on the mountain.

Climbing with oxygen is safe!

The cylinder is made of modern composite materials — very light. In fact, almost the entire weight of the cylinder is the oxygen inside.

Volume: 4 liters at 300 Bar pressure, giving you a reserve of 1,150 liters. At an elevated flow rate of 2 liters per minute, that's nearly 10 hours of use. The actual ascent itself takes 6–7 hours.

For complete safety, all equipment is duplicated! Your guide carries a backup cylinder, a second mask, and a spare regulator in case of even the slightest equipment failure.

Who is this format for?

First and foremost — for those who value their time and cannot take 8–10 days out of their busy schedule to achieve their dream.

Because this ascent is easier than other Elbrus programs, it's suitable even for those with below‑average physical fitness.

The only essential condition: no medical contraindications for strenuous physical activity.

Our experienced guides will do everything to ensure your Elbrus experience is successful and helps you fulfill your long‑held dream.

Program Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival

This day is optional but highly recommended for your comfort.

We will meet you at the airport, at Mineralnye Vody railway station, or at Pyatigorsk railway station, and transfer you to our office in Pyatigorsk.

In a relaxed setting, we will sign all necessary documents and check your gear and clothing for the ascent. If anything is missing, you can rent it on the spot — we have everything you need.

Pyatigorsk is a resort town. You can stay overnight at any of the many hostels or hotels (prices start from 800 RUB).

Day 1: Transfer to the Elbrus Region

If you chose not to arrive earlier, please be at the office by 9:00 AM.

At around 10:00 AM, there will be a briefing where your guide will briefly introduce themselves, give an overview of the tour, explain safety rules and mountain etiquette, and answer your questions.

At 11:00 AM — departure to the Elbrus region.

We take the cable car to Gara‑Bashi station and check into the mountain hut. Practice crampon walking technique and ice axe self‑arrest.

Day 2: Elbrus Summit Day

We wake up at midnight. You'll have 1.5 hours to get ready and eat.

Put on all your gear (crampons, harness, headlamp) and set out for the ascent.

We take a snowcat up to 5,000 m. We move slowly to conserve energy. The ascent typically takes 4–5 hours; descent takes another 1–2 hours.

From 5,000 m, we descend by snowcat.

Regardless of the outcome, after 1:00 PM all group movement is downhill only.

On the same day, we take the cable car down and return to Pyatigorsk — where a glass of chilled champagne, your certificate of successful ascent, and a commemorative medal await!
