Elbrus South Route Ascent — Comfort Program

You don't need to be in perfect physical shape to summit Elbrus. Still, this is not a casual walk — and it does require preparation.

We offer the most popular Elbrus ascent program, suitable even for beginners. Instead of exhausting slogs with heavy backpacks — gradual acclimatization, guided preparation, and comfortable accommodation with quality meals. Our experienced guides will do everything to make your Elbrus experience successful and help you fulfill your long‑held dream.

Program Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival

This day is optional but highly recommended for your comfort.

We will meet you at the airport, at Mineralnye Vody railway station, or at Pyatigorsk railway station, and transfer you to our office in Pyatigorsk.

In a relaxed setting, we will sign all necessary documents and check your gear and clothing for the ascent. If anything is missing, you can rent it on the spot — we have everything you need.

Pyatigorsk is a resort town. You can stay overnight at any of the many hostels or hotels (prices start from 800 RUB).

Day 1: Transfer to the Elbrus Region

If you chose not to arrive earlier, please be at the office by 11:00 AM.

At around 12:00 PM, there will be a briefing where your guide will introduce themselves, give an overview of the tour, explain safety rules and mountain etiquette, and answer your questions.

At 1:00 PM — departure to the Elbrus region.

In just three hours, you'll be breathing the crisp pine air and admiring the majestic Caucasus mountains.

We'll spend the free time on a short group walk around the area.

Day 2: Acclimatization Hike — Mount Cheget

Your first acclimatization step: ascending Mount Cheget.

This mountain is rightfully considered the pearl of the region and the best viewpoint for Elbrus and the Semerka glacier — it has long won the hearts of hiking enthusiasts.

A small picnic on the summit with breathtaking views adds to the experience. We'll take the cable car down to save your legs and conserve energy.

Day 3: Trek to Devich'i Kosy Waterfall

Continuing acclimatization. Today includes theory on proper walking and breathing techniques at altitude — followed immediately by practice on a short trek to the Devich'i Kosy Waterfall.

The waterfall is located on the southern slopes of Terskol Peak at 2,800 m. You'll carry only a small backpack with a thermos, snacks, and personal items. After the waterfall, the trail continues onward to the Observatory.

The observatory's main focus is studying the physical properties of celestial bodies — but we'll hike there for the magnificent panoramic views and the profound silence of the mountains. We return to the hostel in the evening for rest.

Day 4: Checking into the Mountain Hut

Time to move up the mountain.

While the valley hotel is comfortable, acclimatization and preparation for low‑oxygen, low‑pressure conditions require sleeping at altitude.

We'll take the cable car to Gara‑Bashi station (3,847 m) and settle into the mountain hut that will be your home for the next few days.

In your free time, you'll hike up a snow slope to practice crampon walking technique.

Day 5: Acclimatization Ascent to 5,000 m

Today you'll experience altitude firsthand.

We'll climb to 5,000 m for acclimatization. You'll feel how your body responds to the changing conditions and give it time to adapt gradually.

The main ascent method in the mountains is traversing — a zigzag path that increases step count but smooths out the steepness.

Pay attention to how you feel at the highest point of the day. In good weather, clouds will spread out below you, and the summit will be just 642 meters above.

Day 6: Rest Day

A rest day is essential before the summit push.

Despite the relaxed pace, you'll still have snow and ice training sessions and short walks to keep your body toned.

At 5:00 PM, we'll call an early lights‑out so everyone can get enough sleep before midnight.

Day 7: Elbrus Summit Day

The big day — the culmination of all your preparation.

We wake up at midnight*. You'll have 1.5 hours to get ready and eat. Put on all your gear (crampons, harness, headlamp) and set out for the ascent.

We move very slowly to maintain steady breathing and conserve energy. The ascent typically takes 8–10 hours; descent takes another 3–4 hours. Regardless of the outcome, all group movement is downhill only after 1:00 PM.

If time permits and the cable car is running, you may descend to the valley and transfer to Pyatigorsk on the same day. If the weather doesn't cooperate, your guide will decide to use a reserve day.

*For an additional fee, snowcat ascent to 5,000 m is available. In that case, the start shifts 2–3 hours later. Cost starts from 14,000 RUB per person.

Day 8: Descent to Azau Clearing — Return to Pyatigorsk

Breakfast. Check out of the hut. Take the cable car down to Azau, where the group transfer to Pyatigorsk departs. The tour ends here.

Day 9: Reserve Day

If due to weather or other circumstances the summit attempt was not made on Day 7, the procedure is repeated. If reserve days are not used, the tour may finish 1–2 days earlier.
